NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY COGNITIVE LINGUISTICS RESEARCH GROUP (NAU Cog-Ling)

NAU Cog-Ling Group had its beginnings in an informal meeting in the office of Prof. Chinedu Uchechukwu on 26th January, 2021. At this meeting, the following decisions were taken:

  1. to use the broad divisions of Vyvyan Evans Cognitive Linguistics: a Complete Guide and draw up a study plan.
  2. to supplement the study plan with other materials like Geeraerts and Cuckens’ Oxford Handbook of Cognitive Linguistics, in addition to other foundational books (like Lakoff and Johnson’s Metaphors we live by, Lakoff’s Women, Fire and Dangerous things, Evans and Bergen’s The Cognitive Linguistics Reader.
  3. to have a weekly meeting that shall involve the presentation of, and deliberations on, each of the topics on the study plan.

With the above resolutions, the first meeting of the Cognitive Linguistics Study Group started on 12th March 2021. The initial projection was to conclude the study plan within FOUR MONTHS: 12th March 2021 to 14th July 2021.  However, in spite of a strict maintenance of the regular weekly meetings, the study plan could only be concluded in March 2022: ONE YEAR!

With the completion of the study plan, the study group now metamorphosed into the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Cognitive Linguistics Research Group: NAU Cog-Ling Group, coordinated by Prof. Chinedu Uchechukwu.
