About Us

Our History

The idea of going into the Cognitive Linguistics approach to the study of Igbo and other Nigerian languages at Nnamdi Azikiwe University was initiated by Prof. Chinedu Uchechukwu, who in 2021 discussed it for the first time with his colleagues. They all welcomed the idea and keyed into it. Thereafter, the group started as a study group.

As a study group an advanced introductory study plan was developed with the Table of Contents of Vyvyan Evans's (2019) Cognitive Linguistics: a Complete Guide as the backbone, enriched with other foundational cogintive linguistics works from Langacker, Talmy, Lakoff, and so on.

Inauguration: The group held its first official meeting on March 12, 2021.

Study Completion: The group concluded its foundational study plan in March 2022, and since then has become one of the Research Groups in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka
